Brett used his genius graphic design skills to make the postcard for my play. We open in two weeks! So crazy and exciting!

I got an iTrip for Christmas! Apparently Santa Claus reads the comment section of my blog. It was very useful for the 12 hour roundtrip car ride to and from Phoenix. I found out my ipod is in love with Ben Folds. I like him a lot too.

The airbag light has been on in my car for two weeks. Since I haven't had time to take it in I have instead adopted the policy of mentally preparing myself to be hit in the face with an airbag at any moment. I consistently remind myself that it might happen and try to imagine driving while being assaulted by an airbag, at least well enough to pull over. The whole thing makes for a very relaxing driving experience.

I am actually enjoying directing my play. Who knew? I sure hope people show up!
Since I've moved to LA I have listened to my ipod much less and almost entirely stopped reading books. Those are, not coincidentally, the two things I did when travelling in the city. I got a book from the library here and renewed it three times and finally gave up on it. And I really liked the book! But it was time to face facts, that book was not getting read. If I'm not reading on a subway apparently I'm just not reading. That hasn't stopped my ambition to read, however. I have become slightly obsessed with buying used books from Amazon. "It's only $3.45? I can't NOT buy it!" I think I bought ten books in two weeks, none of which I cracked because I still had hopes for the library book. Well I have learned my lesson. No more amazon, no more library books! Listen up, kids! Reading's for suckers! And for non suckers who take the train a lot in NY.

We decorated our tree tonight (yes, I know the last two entries are all about what a Jew I am and I have a Christmas tree). It looks ridiculous because we have to put all the ornaments only on the top half because Dr. Schwartz attacks the bottom half. She has destroyed the ficus and has now taken up shop under the Christmas tree, making sure to spend enough time attempting to kill the part she can reach. Decorating was bittersweet because we have all the ornaments from our party last year with pictures of our friends on it. I miss you people in NY! I am also really missing NYC during the holidays. I have a wonderful selective memory of remembering the snow as mood enhancing and cozy instead of freezing and annoying and exacerbating my hermit tendencies.
In other news, Andrew Bird is my new favorite "musician guy." (That was a reference to my crazy actress friend who asked Tom Waits if he was "that musician guy".) Go forth and listen to him if you haven't. You won't be sorry!

Proof I'm a Perfect Director
My note today to an actor: "Be more Jewish."
This thing is going to be awesome.

Yesterday Brett and I saw Match Point, the new Woody Allen film, and he spoke afterwards. Being raised by New York Jews it's in my genetic make up to love Woody. But when he arrived and everyone stood up to give him a standing ovation I stood up too until I remembered, "Oh wait, he's a child molester" and I sat down. Apparently I will see his movies, own an Annie Hall poster, but when it comes to standing ovations, I draw the line. I liked the movie, Brett didn't. But being raised by Arizonan Mormans, he has no genetic obligation to love the Woodman.

Brett trying to figure out how George the cat got poop all over his leg:
"He was probably in the litter box and she wanted to go, so she went outside of it and then he stepped in it when he got out of the box. That was like CSI for cats."
Yes, at the moment those cats are figuring their way around things and it got a little disgusting. They'll learn!

I just watched the episode of I Love Lucy when John Wayne was on. It was so funny! I know this is crazy but I think that show could have been a hit! Watching Lucy scream at John Wayne about how much she loved him was funny today but I bet when John Wayne was at the height of his career it was even funnier. She was such a genius. And it's amazing to see that sitcoms have been doing for sixty years what they and she did so perfectly so long ago. I recently found out that Desi Arnaz came up with the multi camera set up for sitcoms that they still use today. Anyway watching that episode made me happy that I thought it was just as hilarious today as it was when I was eight and would rewrite the episodes onto carbon copy paper for my friends and I to act out. I am old.

Well, my news this week is more than the extra two cats we have fostered/adopted, although that is going quite adorably. The other news is that I have written a play that I am also directing that is going up January 13th for a six week run! It makes perfect sense that this would happen as when I moved to CA from NY I started writing screenplays, so why not start writing plays when I move here? Nothing like making the least of my opportunities! But seriously folks, I'm really excited about it. I hope whoever is in town will come see it! That is, I hope whoever is in the city of Los Angeles at that time will come see it.
Our new cats are named George and Gracie. Go ahead and puke from cuteness.

My reaction when the tabloids first started saying Nick and Jessica’s marriage was in trouble: “I can’t believe they are doing that to them! We see their show, we know they’re fine. How stupid do they think we are? I wish they would leave them alone.”
My reaction when the tabloids first starting saying Brad Pitt was having an affair with Angelina: “I can’t believe they are doing that to them! How stupid do they think we are? They’re totally fine! I wish they would leave them alone.”
My reaction when Tim Russert talked to anyone about there being no proof of weapons of mass destruction: “He’s really smart.”
I really don’t know what’s wrong with me that I am so shocked that Brad is adopting Angelina’s kids. I was holding out hope they were just friends. If I had subject headings for this blog this would be under: why do I care?
We saw Good night/Good Luck last night instead of today where we could have seen Cloonster talk afterwards. It was really good, but instead of free it was $14.00!! What? That’s how much the tickets are at the Arclight on a Saturday night. I’m sorry but the assigned seating and the “adorable” guy who comes out before the movie starts to tell you about the movie you are going to see is really not worth an extra $4.00, Arclight. I already know about the movie I’m going to see, that’s why I’m going to see it.

So on Sunday we could either see a screening of Good Night and Good Luck with a Q & A with George Clooney afterwards, or we could foster (let's face it, adopt) two more kittens who were litter mates of Dr. Schwartz. Why are we so crazy?
Clearly I was debating this very important issue in my sleep because last night i dreamt I was with george clooney in a car waiting to go somewhere, and I said, let's move! Of course George is way too cool to get too excited about anything that isn't going to change the world, so he kind of rolls his eyes and says he doesn't really feel like it. So I say, "Put your foot on the gas and I'll steer." How cliche a dream is that? I dreamt that I'm trying to steer but someone else is behind the wheel? That was clearly just a first draft of the dream.

Rick survived The View. Adorably. (Possibly with hair extensions? Not sure.) And apparently he's on the front page of the calendar section (I think) of the NY Times! Congratulations, Rick!
